Chrysler 200 and 300 First to Get “S” Treatment
Initially, every 200 S will package the model’s uplevel powertrain and a full complement of features, but the S branding may not always designate the top of the ladder from a performance or luxury standpoint. Chrysler says it is considering offering the S trim level on four-cylinder 200 sedans and convertibles, as well as six-cylinder 300s. If Chrysler does go that route, not all S cars will be created equal. A company spokesperson tells us, “There could be an S model for both the Limited and C. They could be entirely different from each other, each representing a style and attitude appropriate for each price class.”
Chrysler is looking at rolling out S models for every model in the lineup—even the Town & Country. The company had a Town & Country S on display at the Detroit auto show in January, and is planning another S-ified concept for the Chicago show next week. We certainly appreciate the attention Chrysler is devoting to smart looks with the S models, but our attention is still focused on Mopars where that S is followed by RT.
