TOTD: More Displacement or Forced Induction?
We recently listed the Top 10 largest engines sold in the U.S., a varied group of cars and trucks that include the Lamborghini Aventador, Chevrolet Silverado HD, and the SRT Viper. Every vehicle shares one trait in common — providing loads of power by using large displacement engines, be it naturally aspirated or with forced induction.
The Aventador, for example, is powered by a 6.5-liter V-12 making 691 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque and the SRT Viper churns out 640 hp and 600 lb-ft from its ginormous 8.4-liter V-10. Turbocharged engines on the list include the Bentley Mulsanne’s 6.7-liter twin-turbo V-8 making 505 hp and 752 lb-ft. The Ford F-Series Super Duty truck with the 6.7-liter V-8 diesel (rated at 400 hp and 800 lb-ft) also relies on turbos.
